Our Story

aboutbethany.png

I am a twenty-something Jesus follower who grew up going to church and was active in church activities. I went to Liberty University in Virginia for my degree where I received a Bachelor of Science and a Biblical Studies Minor. While there, I was exposed to the many facets of Christian thought through required Bible courses for virtually the first time. I discovered that I enjoyed learning about the Bible in an academic setting, and I worked through many of the basics of faith in Christ and the Bible during my time on campus.

If co-hosting a theology podcast has taught me anything, it’s that most issues lie on a spectrum of beliefs and very few are cut-and-dry. I have learned a lot and some things that I held strongly before I have loosened up on, while other things I hold to more strongly now. Many times I have entrusted an issue into the Lord’s hands, knowing that He knows everything and I don’t have to. Through explaining things on the podcast and occasionally teaching for our church’s youth program, God has developed a love of teaching His Word in me

in order to develop relationships and help others understand their faith and love God better.

Currently I work in education, which God has ignited a love for in me in the past year. I am a podcast aficionado; I listen to them throughout the day and if I find one I like, I go back and listen to the whole archive! Many of these are about history and theology. A few of my favourite things to do are cooking, reading, swing dancing, playing card games, and painting. More recently also I started acquiring plants. I live with my plants and my wonderful cat, Ziva.

Hi friend! I’m thankful you’re here and I’m happy to meet you! My story is an ordinary one; maybe yours is too. But we serve a God who delights in ordinary people giving Him glory! So that’s what I seek to do, albeit it imperfectly and woefully insufficiently most of the time.

I was raised in a solid Christian home where I learned to love theology. In some ways, I’ve experienced a variety of theological viewpoints. Our family moved from a Christian Reformed church to a Christian & Missionary Alliance congregation when I was a preteen (think infant to adult baptism), and while I was homeschooled for elementary school, I attended a Roman Catholic high school. Being exposed to different theological outlooks at various points gave me a lot to think about growing up.

As a young adult, I became involved in youth ministries at our local church and began to seriously pursue teaching piano. Thanks to these and God’s guidance, I’ve discovered a passion for teaching in the last few years. I have gained an

interest in theology as well because as I look back on my teen years, I’m disappointed that no one taught me the more nuanced areas of Christianity, such as why different Christians believe differently about things like baptism, communion, worship, and how God’s sovereignty works with man’s free will. It’s my goal to teach others about various theological viewpoints fairly so that they can make their own educated, carefully-discerned decisions about how they walk with Christ.

I live on a 3-acre farm with my sweet husband William and our (mostly) cute dog Murphy, along with a small crew of farm animals. In my spare time, I pitch hay, read books, listen to podcasts, sweep floors, bake cookies, sew blankets (one can never have too many blankets), and weed the garden.
